Stories don’t exist as abstractions — and if they do, they’re dreadfully boring or the mark of writer who doesn’t know what he is doing. There is only the three-act structure and it’s variations — insofar as stories have a beginning, middle, and an end. And yes, to chime in with Godard’s oft quoted adage: just not necessarily in that order.
